We investigate the role of the extracellular matrix (ECM) in the progression and spread of human cancer.

We have focused our research on squamous cell carcinoma of the skin and prostate cancer. In addition, we are partners in the international consortium ELMI (European Leukemic Matrisome Interface), where we study ECM in bone marrow in acute myeloid leukemia. Our goal is to find new biomarkers, diagnostic methods based on mass spectrometry, and molecular-level mechanisms that explain the function of cancer cells. The PI of the research group is Professor Jyrki Heino.
